For your pad layout and spacing between components, look here: http://portal.ipc.org/Purchase/ProductDetail.aspx?Product_code=77b562c1-b8f8-db11-8a6a-005056875b22 For your standoff height in SMT, we do not concern ourselves with standoff height. It

We wouldn't advocate extending the soldermask beyond the component body but yes to ganging for fine pitch. To ensure we don't run into issues with flaking our preference is not to add solder mask when the space between pins is less than 6 mil.

A question for you all! Back in the good old days, we didn't always know how clean was clean. Much has changed. Much hasn't. My question concerns cleaning under, through, and around tight spaces. Way back when, we could not clean under 20 mil pitch

The answer for us at my previous employer was water soluble flux. Wash the board, no residue. If you're not set up to wash (needing a washer, DI water source, waste treatment, ventilation, etc.) it can be expensive and space consuming. Do some resea

FYI, Yes, it is true SMT Plus [ http://www.smtplus.com/ ]does not meet IPC 782 standards but is that the goal here or to meet IPC-A-610 standards for manufacturing? I agree that patterns do cause some problems if created to maximum IPC standards but

Steve , I agree with all the responses you have received. Randy Villeneuve is absolutly correct in all of his assesments and I would consider him an expert with the process , Gris is correct about adding a "heat sink" to the process complicating pr

We don't have a gap between the lead and the pad after a SM joint is soldered. On our boards, this space is filled with the solder intended to attach the component to the board. How high do components sit above the surface of a board? Most people a
