Hello. I am sourcing machines for an SMT line (for the first time) and would like to understand features of current and earlier model SPI and AOI machines. In the intended application, a high volume of PCAs aren't required to be processed but there

Brian, We have the Mirtec Table Top. It is very good at detecting the component and orientation. It is however only as good as we program it to be. We have seen some limitations in respect to solder connections. I have not found it to be 100% re

You should also check out YesTech. Both companies should give you in house demo's and be willing to leave a machine there to try out for 30 days. They are with out a doubt only as good as the programmer. I think the support from Yestech would be bett

Since I'm new to the forum I probably ask previously answered questions (that I have not found) but I would be grateful if someone could clarify this for me. I'm in R&D at a company where we design low volume (1k-10k) fairly complex PCBAs for our pr

Test Jet will work for catching lifted leads, certainly. X-ray is the only thing for testing for internal solder defects such as voids and cracks. I personally do not have any experience using X-ray, so I cannot advise on its reliability. Perhaps

The SimmScope is a first article inspection system that uses an overhead digital microsope on a motorized gantry to inspect the board - much like an AOI - except that it does not automatically make the pass/fail decisions. It is up to the operator to

Dr. Lou, Your first question is influenced by many variables. New equipment will have the first year free parts, labor and service. You may discuss a long term at time of purchase. Older equipment may (depending on maintenance) have a higher chance

Ive used a Mirtec machine for 3 years MV3L with side angle inspection. Mirtec has some issues documentation, and repair plus. But there machine is impressive and the AOI software is good. We can find about 90-99.99% of all errors using just the 5

That's hard to quantify. I deal with escapes when they occur, but I haven't kept track of that data. It doesn't happen to often. But when it does, I take it back to the AOI to analyze why it escaped, and change the algorithm to catch it, if I can.
