orientation is also a factor here, So what is the pitch of these connectors? the lead length? the hole dimensions? surface finish? and what type of wave and flux are you running? Shorts are pretty easy to eliminate if everything is of adequate des

Blowholes during wave soldering

Blows holes are usually caused by improper amount of flux applied to the boards prior to WAVE process and, in some circumstances, can be related to the preheater settings.

Aren't the solder balls a result of the blowholes? you know the solder that came from the blowholes is now the solderballs on the resist! hahaha :-) Russ

Thanks for all the answers. Is it also possible with lead free soldering to produce little holes in the solder that are not blowholes? We see holes where you can see the end of the hole (not very deep). The holes are always on the same places.

Kester has a special alloy for high temp soldering. Alloy 123. I would think that if you coocked 63/37 to 360c you would have a pot of dross in no time! Doug

If you have surface mount on the bottom, you can place openings between any thru-hole parts that constantly short. Your adhesive is a natural solder block!

What manufacturer is it? I usually stack the bars in as tight as possible. Especially against the wall of the pot with heaters. While it's heating keep applying slight pressure with a bar of appropriate material, towards the sides to facilitate melti

We are running an RMA flux (Kester 1515). Changing the angle didn't help any so we're back at 6 degrees and placing an order for the lambda nozzle changeover. Are you currently running the debridging knife?

most machines have fixed angle of 6 deg. some are adjustable from 5 - 7 deg., but 6 is most popular.
