Did you check the pin location accuracy before placement? I mean if possible pin was hit or misaligned a little before placement, so the pin cannot inserted in hole then bent. And maybe you need contact your component supplier to study together.

It appears to be a female DIN connector. Can you count the # of holes inside this connector ? So far, unable to locate the same mating connector but the picture is not perfectly clear.

Dummy pads can work well on through hole parts and are often used in the Far East and on IBM products. If you take a VCR or TV board you will often see this trick being used. Alternativly you can stagger the pads at the trailing edge that works well.

Ken, Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I am in Mexico and we make our own PCBs. That is another conversation entirely and another of my fix-it projects but currently we drill the PCBs and align the artwork to the holes visually
