White residue, probably nothing to do with the flux but was more than likely mineral salts from resist cure problem that are only soluble in Mineral Acids. No residue is the best IF resist is good, if resist issue's use low solids Rosin No Clean and

I agree with Dave on the Water soluble process for this part. It is interesting that I have yet to find a Water Soluble for lead free that works. I have experienced a lot of problems with the flux on these pastes, wetting, solder balls, etc... kind

SonFlux EZ is not suitable for water SOLUBLE flux. SonoFlux Servo can be equipped with parts that whitstand corrosive water soluble fluxes. SonoFlux Servo was about 19k€ in 2011 (including installation).

Are you using a water soluble paste? Older generations of water soluble paste are notorious for voiding. Some of the new generation water soluble fluxes allow a much wider process window.

Sounds reasonable. If there was NC flux "crud" on the balls, the vision processors of our P&P would have detection issues.

I think you can effectively clean under any other low standoff device. It's an issue of surface tension, pressure, and flow rate. DI water is the starting point, but the surface tension of straight DI water makes it difficult to get under low stand

I would imagine your system is either stainless and/or some form of plastic. The water can rust but I doubt your machine has any metal that would be affected by it. You may want to double check your spray cell as well. We have been running water s

Who Cares... Mix Away! Although you should not mix different Solder Pastes' together in a container or on a stencil (Mostly due to the flux, although solder sphere size and shape could cause an issue), mixing solder brands or chemistries on a board

If this is a water soluble flux, then the discoloring is caused by the still active flux microetching the solder fillets. Prevention is to wash off all water soluble flux as soon as possible

Hi Guys, Thanks for all your informative replies. I do know that Motorola is using a No Clean Eutectic Solder for their BGA's. We are in Aerospace and is using a Water Soluble Paste Flux. Now, a) Can anyone explain to me about the effect of thei
