Snap On EMI Shield ... anyone has experience?

Hi,

Just a hint to help your posts. When posting a new thread, try and put something into the subject line that helps people know what the post is about. I think the subject is like a little advertisement for your post to encourage people to click on it. "Hi All" most likely will get passed over, where as if you put something like "Snap on EMI shielding" I think you would do better and help everyone.

I normally would not click on a post with a subject like this, however it's a really a good question, and I would also like to know the answer too. Luckily I clicked on it!

We have used these shield clips from Autosplice to good effect. The clips are placed and reflowed on your SMT line and the shield fitted before test. It depends on the demands of your product as to whether these are suitable.

I had a customer like this too. Originally, the customer print called for manual soldering of the RF shield (which took us about 20 min. per shield to hand solder), but I changed it to Solder Reflow (I cut apertures on the stencil), with brass weights on top of the shields applied, obviously before reflow to keep them flush to the board. It still wasn't 100% defect free, but saved the customer on labor.

Those clips look like a great alternative. I am saving that link for future reference.

We like to use the type thast solders onto board and only the top of it is snapped on, this way we can use equipment to place shield and remove shield when required for access to component. We also utilize a through hole shield but basically solder in SMD configuration, we like the through holes because they aid in the positioning of shield base. we print the holes and the perimiter of shield then place and reflow and yes they reflow pretty good in that box!! when they don't we hand load shield without top into paste then reflow
