Does anyone know of where/who to get test equipment to verify Xray cabinet is not leaking?

Take a look here: http://www.geigercounters.com/Monitor4.htm

You can buy one already assembled, or buy the kit and build it yourself. I've built two of these kits, they work just fine.

Glennbrook Technologies Cautionary Note on the Use of Geiger-Mueller Tube Devices: These are inexpensive radiation monitoring devices and it is possible, when they are calibrated to a Cesium-137 standard (at 600 keV), for the meter to read higher than the actual value at lower x-ray photon energies.

We have no relationship, nor receive benefit from the company referenced above.

Hi Dave, we have thought about it, but would like to have something that we can use anytime we want, The dosimiter badges are good except they have to be sent in and then we wait for results. we have people here that are afraid to even walk in front of machine! (please dont ask) it costs us 2500 bucks to have MFGR come out and test for us. We are just looking for more a cost effective alternative.

Does anyone check their own equipment here?

RDR,

If you buy a meter you have to send it in once a year to get calibrated at a certified calibration lab. Can be expensive.

If you use one that is not certified, and something happens your company will be legally responsible. Major risk.

Go to the state or gov. website for your area a find out which agency controls these type of devices. Then contact them and they may have a list of companies who can check your system. It may be a little cheaper than the mfg company.
