Low Flux Residue Solder Paste | 14 June, 2006

I'm looking for a No Clean low or an ultra low flux residue solderpaste (SAC305 and Sn/Pb). Any Recommendation?

Is there something in the datasheet that will tell if a solder paste is really a low residues flux.

Also is there a method to clean the fluxes off a low profile LGAs?

It's hard to say since cleanliness on my product may be acceptable, but may fail on yours. If you really are worried about flux residues, or need to pass some cleanliness spec, you may want to look into water soluable. Otherwise, most of the name brand No Clean pastes are a good choice.

I'm using a lead free solder paste, low residue from SENJu

among all the pastes I've tried it is the best I've found.

you can ask for any type of alloy, but request the 729C flux type.

We evaluated four SAC305 pastes. Of the four, we found Alpha OM-338 to appear to have the least flux residue. We also found it to be the most dull, least shiny, most non-SnPb looking of the four.

I used to work in power electronics, and we had this design engineer who used to "blow moisture" on the high-impedance circuit and test for cleanliness. We were water washing in a OA-Water Soluble environment. He was convinced that there was a correlation between the DI water's resistivity and cleanliness of his boards. Often times, he'd make us put the boards through our DI washer again if they didn't pass his "test."
