Quad 3c/4c Laser Align Settings | 19 September, 2006

Does anyone know of a source for better documentation for the laser align settings? I managed to get a 1206 ceramic capacitor to measure and was working on a 1206 resistor and couldn't get it to succeed. I retried the cap and it failed again and again. I've tired just about every height in the range and also painted the tip of the nozzle (that did seem to help). Thanks, Larry

Hi Larry, me again. Painting the tip should do diddly because you are using laser. Your cap is probably passing because it's thicker and is just inside the range of the system set-up. Check and calibrate your nozzle alignment height settings. Input the actual size and thickness of the component - these should work. It sounds like you need to calibrate all aspects of this machine.

Sounds to me like your nozzle isnt seating on the z-rod bellows. Pick a nozzle up by do a 'runstep nozzle'.....then do a function 30 ( i hope thats the function because its been YEARS since i worked on a c'series). It should give you a nozzle height reading. Then push up on the nozzle with your hand and do another reading.....the number shouldnt change much(no more than a couple of mills).....if it does.....the nozzle wasnt mounted correctly which is why you are having problems. You should use super-lube teflon based grease for your o-rings on the z-rod and that might help with the seating of the nozzles.

Not familiar with 3C/4C but if the head is similar design to Samsung then you might consider flushing the tubes and airlines that go to the nozzles. We used to disconnect the airlines at the top and run cleaner down through the tubes. We would then swab the inside of the tubes from the bottom and reapeat until clean. Blow them out well from the top and make sure all cleaner/junk is out then lube the inside of the tubes from bottom. Inspection mirror helps to see if you have obstructions. Lubing your nozzle o-rings is critical we found. Used to do it prior to almost every build or we would get laser errors.
