Hey All,

Thanks for all of your help to date. While running the nozzle height test I noticed that the Z-rod is bent. Probably happened after setting the "X closed loop soft home" back to 50 from 384 which was probably why the nozzle slammed into the changer later on. It didn't dawn on me until later why some of my X coordinates were off by about a quarter inch.

How do you prevent damage to a $225 Z-Rod?

I know the machine is versitle compared to our old Dynapert 318HR. There were a lot of parts that I couldn't place. But I didn't have to worry about bending the Z-Rod or pretty much anything else. Just babysitting it because it liked to drop parts or not feed them very well.

Larry, I would suggest not changing mod-codes on a machine that you dont know very well and that should solve the damaged z-rod problem. What you should do is get someone into your company to train you on the basic's of operating the machine. The $225 dollar z-rod can take a lot of beating and if you are savy enough.....you can make a tool to straighten them back to within 15 mils of runout. I would also try second sourcing them on google and you would be surprised at the discount you can get buying them from somewhere else besides TYCO.

It wasn't my idea to reset all the mod codes. I was just doing what the guy on the other end of the phone said. I'm working on straighting the Z-Rod now and have a new one on the way as well as a grease kit.

I've only checked with one company on doing some PM on the machine. They wanted 4 or 5 days at $1200 to $1500 a day plus expenses.

I forgot to ask if anyone knows what numbers I should get for function 30, nozzle height and center of rotation? I'm getting 365 for height and 12314 for center of rotation. I know it isn't 12.314 inches out!

I think 365 is ok. You should check and make sure the z-rod's spring is ok. Just make sure it is not sticking. Dont waste your money on the pm. If you want a complete list of things to do.....leave an e-mail address and i can e-mail you a list.
