What is the likelihood that we'll be able to manually dispense paste on 25 mil pitch, 20 mil pads and get away without bridges? We have a CTS Series 753 resnet we need to place and the build qty (30) and board layout (.5" x 1.2" unpanelized, 2-sided) kind of limits what we can do as far as tooling up.

If I can get away with buying a syringe of dispensable paste and some 25...? gauge needles instead of a stencil for this job it would be a major plus.

We have not had very much luck hand dispensing on small pads. It can be done but you will most likely have bridging and insufficients.

If it's only 30 boards why not just get a stencil foil and hand print it? It's a piece of cake...

I agree with Steve on this. If you just order the stencil you would probably save more money than have to fix the boards if you were to do it manually. Most stencil houses for new accounts will let you get a free sample screen as an evaluation.

I've cut component patterns out of old stencils. Not as good as buying a new mini stencil but still it worked.

I guess you can't buy those pre-pasted boards? I've never tried them but they look interesting.

You can get prototype stencils for $140 from Stencils Unlimited. I've never used their services but I have considered it. The stencils are frameless and even come with a hand squeegee for you.

It's a consignment kit and we already have the parts. Otherwise I'd tell them to panelize the thing and we could build all 30 in one pass.

I may be able find a 25 mil QFP on a stencil and hand print that one part if the apertures are long enough. Dispensing for the rest (SOT-23s and an SOIC16) would be a piece of cake

If you do find one, you will want to cut some kind of "handle" with it.

You might want to practice cutting a different pattern first, if you only find one of the pattern you need.

IIT (Integrated Ideas and Technology) could cut you a mini-stencil for about $150 and have it for you the next day if you have the gerbers. Otherwise, they can scan a bare board and create a stencil from that. I've had excellent service from them and they are fast.

"This is why I liked the OEM world."

Talk about someone whose meds require adjustment. Aren't you the same Steve Thomas that worked for a speaker company with the blanked-up: * Design engineers * Marketing people * Chinese subs * Bloggers sabotaging the company

Geez, let-em hang-out at Redhook while they're unemployed and they forget alot, eh? [Erzit he's working so hard he can't get down there anymore?]

lol! Gonna have to call BS on your search engine complaint. I don't believe you remember all that so you MUST have searched it. Or would I be flattering myself to assume that you took the time to look it up?

Nice to hear from you Mr. Fish. I guess I could have worded that differently, eh? "Ehhh, you know that stuff I beeeyotched about in my previous capacity? Ehhhh, not so bad as far as customers go." At least they were predictable. This time the client finally sprung for a stencil, even though it'll cost more than the job itself. Frankly I think they're getting a deal regardless.

Flatter yourself that I remembered. [My friends hate my guts for the stuff I remember. Funny tho, the stuff my wife remembers that I said that I don't even recall slightly. Venus / Mars stuff.]]

We're submitting you for Official SMTnet Wyner.

I used to be pretty active on the selective memory front. Now I'm lucky to remember stuff I want to, never mind stuff I'd like to forget (although typically my spouse won't allow it).
