BTU VIP98 Oven refuses to start | 22 December, 2006

Our VIP98 oven just refused to do anything this morning, no previous history of problems. Conveyor and heaters do not start up. None of the Solid State Relays in the back of the unit are operating, although we can make them switch by wiring up to the input terminals. Temperature readings on the PC Monitor for all zones are zero degrees.

We have checked obvious - power and air all look OK. There is a red LED on in the middle of the controller board - good or bad? Does anyone know if there are any sensors or switches that would totally stop the main board from starting up if they had failed?

Thanks

Simon

Check your battery back up if you have it. If I remember correctly, you may have to manually switch your wiring to by pass a dead battery back-up.

Simon,

In a previous life, I came upon a maintenance tech that had an old vapor phase oven control cabinet half ripped apart for a main power problem. I asked him if he had checked to see if any of the E-Stop swtiches had been hit. One had been activated. I watched an ex-marine go from rage to tears to rage and back to tears.

Doubt this is your problem but it's a funny story anyway.

first, does the recipe have the heat and conveyor boxes checked? If no then it does nothing.

second, have you pressed the round green switch?

third, are there any alarms in the alarm box?

Do you have a controller link fail? Verify the cable is plugged in the serial port. Verify controller is present in the software.

I don't know much about BTU but we had a very similar problem with a Conceptronics and it turned out to be one of the 120V power supplies. Our machine had two of them (the same as you would find in any PC). Easy to test them although they can be flaky and work one minute and not the next.

Hi, A couple of another things is to check: * The cooling water supply (assuming that your oven has this feature). * The fans (Just open the hood and check if every fan, up & down is running).

* Open the back panels: and you should see some "black" relays blinking, controlling the fans.

Pls. Let Us know how it's going...

Thanks, Chunks. Your first post was correct, it turned out to be the battery. That is that problem solved. Unfortunately I have now got an error message saying Flux Management Failure. Is this just a coincidence? It sounds like something to do with the fume extraction, the two fans at the exit of the oven are working. Do you know what it is, or how to fix it.

Thanks, Grant

Lars demands proof the battery was at fault and still insists that Chunks is no expert.

Hey Chunks,

Come APEX time, I'd like to see your, uhm, "credentials" (*(wink* *wink*).

Of course we still need to hit that Karaoke bar!

Is it a failure or a schedule overdue?

If it's a failure check the vacuum sensor in the exhaust. You should be able to locate the straw and follow it back to the diaphragm. You can adjust the diaphragm. Or you can electrically jumper past it.

For schedule over due - just say you did your PM and run.

Hi Fastek Tell Lars the best way to test a battery is by exerting it's max amperage. Turn on your conveyor, run it up the maximum speed and stick your favorite appendage into the drive gear. If the conveyor stops, you need a battery. If it doesnt, you need medical attention. No, I am not an expert, but have a lot of experience.

As for you Samir, not sure if I need to kick or punch you next time I see you. You know I don't share my Egg Foo Young with just anyone.
