Jammed Fuji CP65 Nozzles?

Jammed Fuji CP65 Nozzles? | 29 January, 2007

Hi,

Our Fuji CP65 nozzles are jamming in the up position. Mostly on caps and resistors, the .7mm (0402) and 1.0mm (0805) and 1.3mm (1206) sizes.

They seem to be catching internally where the little peg slides down the slot. If you twist them they slide back down the slot and feel normal.

I think it happens during placment, not pick up.

Does anyone lube these?

Does this mean the housing is worn or the nozzle's?

We have checked part heights, 1st station pick up height with a feeder and feeler guage and the table Z height.

Any other suggestions...

Thanks for your help.

Rob

you need to clean the holders

I'm not familiar with the mechanics of a Fuji but when we were learning to run our chipshooter, we did not correctly assign board thickness in the program. This caused the board support pins to warp the board up just enough to push nozzles to a parked position in the heads when placing.

Before you do anything to the windmills check the heights in your PD's and if you are using board supports be certain that they are set correctly. The CP 65 has approx 1.8mm of travel before the pin will get stuck, as the nozzle should only deflect .3mm at placement they should not get to this point unless there is an error in board level. The error can be caused either by a hardware interference or an incorrect part height. I have once seen this at pickup when poor vaccuum left a mess of parts at the back, on top of the feeder, but you should see a large mess back there.

Rob, I have talked about this on the forums before. I have since then gained much more experience on this issue.

Some things to look at :

1. The X/Y/Z table must be indicated flat. (See the Fuji manual for specs.) 2. Your Z-origin must be correct. (See manual for specs) 3. As mentioned above your PD heights must be correct. You should have seperate PD's for resistors and capacitors.

Dirty winmills and improper support height can also cause sticking, but I am sure you checked that first ; )

Good Luck, Sr.

Rob, I am not a Fuji technician, but I have some knowledge on the nozzles, windmills, and headshafts. As far as I know the bore the nozzle travels in should be dry with no lube. The grease on the windmill shaft and locating pin is a special purpose grease. I would not spray or dunk the windmill or you will wash this grease out or cause it to migrate into the nozzle bores. I think the nozzle bores should be cleaned with a swab and no residue solvent. Your problem as described seems to be overtravel. The smaller nozzles have less friction in contact with the chip, so they are more likely to rotate when overtraveled. If you still have trouble after the other fixes. Try trouble shooting by noting if the same windmill is involved in the sticking, if so does the problem move to another windmill if you swap nozzles. If the problem happens randamly with all the windmills it would indicate another direction to look. FredC

Hi,

We think the problem was the z orgin on the X,Y, table.

After calibration and adjusting the proper things are much better.

Thanks to everyone.
