I need suggestions for Quoting software for a contract electronics manufacturing service. I want something detailed if possible that allows breaking down every step involved and multiple labor rates depending on the task being performed....I would also like to see some simple solutions. Thank You, B

A homegrown spreadsheet with all the formulas is the way to go.

You must OVER-INFLATE your labor rates too. At my last place of employment, I'd come up with "sound engineering numbers" only to be forced to over-inflate them by the factory manager.

Nuts to that! Here's the right way todo this. I generally take a bill of Material and go line by line and charge accordingly. If there is a smt cap I charge 2.3 times the amount I pay, unless its a bigger than a 1206, then I charge 3.1 If its a smt resistor I charge 1.9 tmes my paying price, unless its biggerthan a 0805 then I double that. If its smaller than an 0204 I charge 3.69 times the amount I pay. BGAs and QFPs are the most complicated and get a 3.96 times more price increase to them. Thru hole components all get the same 2.5 times rate unless its more than 6 manual insertion station in which each more part gets 3.05 times more. Wave solder is free but double sided reflow Ursa boards get an addiional 3 dollars added to them. I double fixture price of new ict fixtures and then charge to house any board that needs to go in a houseing. Generally if its a large board I charge about 1.5 times more than the usual flat rate I would for a smaller board of such a size of that magnatude.

When you say "paying price" are you referring to turnkey costs only OR are you saying that if a smt 0805 cap costs you .08 in labor + actual price you charge .08*2.3=.184 cents per placement? OR the former turnkey question of say it costs you 3 dollars for a reel of 0805 caps...you charge $6.90 per reel? We are only doing a 17% markup on turnkey parts here. I hear we are the lowest in our area for turnkey parts markup. b

While you're waiting for others to repond, search the fine SMTnet Archives. We're had a couple conversations like this fairly recently.

So if you are getting 100% consignment parts on a single sided board, then you are doing it all for free and getting 3-dollars for a doubled board?

Wow, that is pretty cheap.
