Siemens waffle pack Changer problems _ Help Please!! | 9 January, 2008

We recently acquired a Siemens Siplace F3 and a S15 machine, and I am having a few problems with the machines. We have always been a Universal shop, so I am not really familiar with the Siplace machines, and need some help from all of you folks out there on SMTnet...

The F3 machine will not find its waffle pack changer fiducial at all. I can ge tthe machine to run a reference run on the changer, provide trays, and go to various levels in single function mode, but when I try to use the waffle in a production run, the machine tries to find the fiducals for the WPC and fails to find it. Obviously the machine will not allow me to continue until I take the WPC out of the set up. When The unit goes to look for the initial fiducial, it is off by nearly an an inch. I know the WPC is in the correct position, and can't possibly push the WPC in further into the machine to get the fiducial to where the camera can see it...

Any ideas, or know someone who would be able to help me out?

Maybe you have the wrong waffle pack assigned to the machine. I don't have alot of experience with a f3 though. Are you using the UNIX based software?

I am using the older Unix software. It had been said that I could possibly be using the wrong kind of WPC in the station configuration. I am not that familiar with these machines yet, so I am not real positive on what I am seeing on the config files.

Jay Go to the Services menu and then station configuration. Choose your F3 machine from the list. This will open the tool that allows you to configure what the machine has on it. Look to see if you have a box with the following: WPC-TR S_WPW_80F_3

This indicates a Type 3 changer is installed. If you dont have this one installed on your LC it won't work correctly.

You have my sympathy, the Line computer Station configuration screen is hard to get your head around. Assuming that you have configured the station correctly you might need to re-compile the station and/or consistency check it to see of it passes. Then run Line Configuration. Do you know for sure whether its a WPC or a WPC3? I remember back in the old days we installed a waffle pack changer on an F3 that had not originally been factory configured for it. We had a lot of trouble because the mounting plate that bolts to the table was wrong - I can't remember why there seemed to be two sizes of plate and why we had the wrong one - might be the difference between WPC and WPC3. We eventually got around it by tweaking the MA data in the machine - and that was not intuitive either. If you are located around NE TN I might be able to help you otherwise you will need to contact Siemens, or perhaps Mr Witte could help you out - this is a pretty old machine.
