Does anybody have any reasonable experience with an in-line Solder Paste Inspector that actually is inspecting 3-D solder paste?

Does the information that you get provide any reasonable data on process control (not just pass/fail) that would justify this over a faster (and more cost effective) 2-D Inspection machine?
