Pick errors from Vishay reels | 3 December, 2008

Our UIC Lightning Head is having pick issues with Vishay reels (0402,0603) when the reel are near the end. It occurs ~300-200 pieces before the end of the reel. Pick point was confirmed and is consistent. Has anyone experienced this issue nearing the end of a reel?

Its mainly on the heavy hitters when the head is sitting over the feeder (Gold) and doing some multiple picks. Again this only seems to happen near the end of a reel. If we splice the reel is it picks perfectly directly after the splice.

Hi,

we also use Advantis machines. Our software have a software option "Auto teach pick up position". This one is made exactly for not perfect feeders or reels. In case you have this option it could help you. you can set it for each part you want.

Check the spring tension on the reel holder. When the reels start running out of parts the spring can provide enough tension to keep the reel from spinning. I have seen this on some of the dual-lane feeders. Tape the spring back to verify. If this is the problem you should be able to get replacements from UIC for free.

I had similar problems with some Chinese 0805 capacitors. Some parts simply won't get out of the paper tape - like they sticked to the bottom paper tape... It happened on two reels, the rest was OK, so I suppose that was some "glitch" on their side...
