BIRAL T&D Lubricant | 7 July, 2009

Hi All,

Has anyone used an alternative for this lubricant on the FUJI SMT machines? I am currently sourcing for a cheaper and a more available option.

While you're waiting for others to reply, search the fine SMTnet Archives to find threads like: http://dev.smtnet.com/Forums/Index.cfm?CFApp=1&Message_ID=52172

During a service call, We had a FUJI guru tell us that Biral was actually not a great lubricant for LM rails or rust prevention because it thickens and gums up quite quickly, which is true. His recommendation was to use TFL-50 wet lube. We've been using this for several years now and in our opinion it lasts longer and works better. We buy it online from http://www.tfl50.com

Biral T&D has to be purchased directly from Biral Norway. We recently successfully purchased a case.

I have found that oils and greases are shrouded in a "veil of black magic". I have gone over this time and time again. My opinion is that 99.9% of the "black magic" is B.S.

It kinda like putting amsoil, slick 50, or mobil 1 in your car. Do you really actually gain any benefit ? If you are racing, or are in an extreme environment..maybe. Who knows...I can tell you that I have never seen a automotive engine that has had a mechanical failure due to the type of oil that was used. We have always used Biral, and it has always performed. Could you get away with using WD40, or Marvel Mystery Oil (lol)...maybe..who knows. You need to make up your own mind on that one.

My only concern on switching spray lubes would be its ability to mix with the grease that you use on your Fuji's

PS: Daxman, I am not sure what you are seeing with the Biral gumming up. I have NEVER seen even a hint of that here.

Thanks Sr. Tech!

To Daxman,

Do you use Alvania#2 as well (in combination with TFL-50)?

Furthermore, when purchasing TFL-50 wet lube, do you normally pay for the shipment, dangerous goods packing, etc?

Thanks a lot!

Hi, sorry for the late reply.

We use Mobil Mobilux EP2 grease for the LM blocks and TFL50 where there is bare metal. We've purchased the TFL50 online many times and only incur a shipping expense.
