Pick and Place machine dropping parts | 10 July, 2009

Hello everyone, i have a few questions regarding dropped components. I have a Philips Topaz X and it has been dropping components. I would like to know what causes them to drop. I know parts can be mispicked from time to time. This is very general, but if anyone could help me and provide and documentation it would be great. It could for and pick and place machine, not just Topaz.

Hello sny!

At what time does the Topaz drop the components? Directly after picking or after recognizing on the way to the mount position?

a more general solution is have you done some cleanning in the vaccumm for the nozzles? change the filters or filter?

1.- Check your vacuum a.- Check filters b.- Check air flow (the vacuum is generated by a Ventury using air flow, not air pressure) c.- Vaccum vias (Possible linth inside the vacuum lines)

2.- Check the nozzle condition (Probably broken or ckracked nozzle)

3.- Pick-up position (It is picking-up at center of carrier pocket?

4.- Picking-up speed & turning speed (The second if the part needs to be turned 90 to 180 degrees in order to be placed.

5.- Is the nozzle of the appropiate size regards to the size of the part to be placed?

6.- PCB Support, when you have large size boards they are prone to bounce and the parts will "jump" of the PCB.

I hope this give you a general approach to your problem.

Best regards

thanks everyone!

When we have a PCB to do, for one component, they usually give us an excess of 10 components! We are issued over 2,000 components. Does that sound reasonable?

The problem is usually when the head picks up the component before it recognizes it. Im assuming the feeder needs to be maintenanced. Does anybody know how to check the filter and vacuum levels of this machine? what should the vacuum levels be around?

Hello!

You can check your vacuum in MANUAL and then VACUUM IN MONITOR. You can switch the vacuum on or off for each head. With a TYPE 72 nozzle and no component the vacuum should be around 80 or 90 and with a component at the nozzle it should be over 160 better over 180. Do you have the problems with all parts or more melf or chip?

most of the problems tend to be with TANT components and a few 0603 chips.

Hello!

You could check your pick an mount vacuum, too. You can do it in COMPONENT INFO with the ADJUST ASSISTANT (F6). Then PICK UP COMPONENT. If you don´t know how to read the grafic that is shown then just push F1 for HELP. What size do the TANT have and what Nozzle do you use for it?

The Tant size is 3528-21. I use type 72 nozzle for it.

check your vacuum valve, manually turn it on and off,i have the same problem like that b-4, after replacing the vacuum valve, the problem went away.
