DEK SMEMA to UIC Conveyor | 20 July, 2009

I’m having trouble with the transfer of one board from the UIC conveyor to a DEk screen printer. They are set up for SMEMA to SMEMA but the DEK keeps asking for a aboard when it already has one. Then it will ask for one every 5-8 seconds. DO I have a bad card in the dek or is there something I need to jumper in the connector?

Thanks Dry heat

Hello Maybe its the sensor on the dek machine not seeing that it has a board so it just keeps asking for one.

Hi, I just read your post. I think I know what's your problem is. In the DEK 265 (I assumed that is the model?)There is a special card for such things. For. ex. Fuji interface, Panasonic, Siemens, and UIC SMPI - interface. Uninerversal has therir own, or used to to have a very complicated inter face between their machines.

There is a solution, or 2 of them in the easiest way: 1. Talk to your local DEK-distributor and ask for the correct interface card. There should be one for the in-put and another card for the out-put Meaning you can have an UIC Conveyor on the in-put and a Fuji conveyor on the out-put. If Yoy do this, please remember to change the interface under "settings" (turn the key to the right.)

2. Talk to UIC because they have developed a small conversion box to do exactly what you are asking for.

Since then UIC realized that their own SMPI-inteface didn't work together with other brands. So now the are also using SMEMA. But, SMPI- interface was a really good interface and had the capability to do a'lot more than smema, but way far to complicated. Sorry for my poor english & grammar.

Btw, I think I have such a conversion box. If You are interested. Please tell me the exact configuration. For ex. is it really SMEMA on the DEK side and is it a SMPI interface on the other side?

It is easy to tell, take a picture of the connector from the Universal side and post it here. I will tell you if it is SPMPI , Full SMPI (they are different) or SMEMA, or at least I will try to do it. Certainly it will be other here who can tell. A lot of small pins, let say > 10 or even up from a UIC conveyor of the old model - probably SMPI is the connector from UIC fully loaded, then full SMPI, but not all of them are used. Just Good board, bad Board, send, receive acknowledge. It is possible to convert this into SMEMA. I just learn here on this forum a few months ago of how to convert SMEMA to FUjI-interface. Best Regards, Mika. Ps. Sorry for my poor English and grammar. ds.

Instead of using a conversion box just make your own cable. Look in the Dek manual, volume #2, chapter 18. It shows you how it's wired. Easy to make and looks allot cleaner than those conversion boxes.

It isn't clear if it was working and stopped, or if this is the first time you've tried to make it work. If this is first try, need to confirm cards and cables on DEK, and what interface is configured on UIC. I have SMEMA cards in stock if needed. Pin-outs for cables easy.

Confirm we're talking 265GS/LT/GSX.

We're most likely looking at X9 Personality card... You can swap X8 and X9. Can't recall seeing a failure in SCB40 in the 15 yrs I've been doing this. If not the personality then the PCIB (#5) in the PC.
