Is the use of a 'canned air' product on a PCBA an ESD concern; such as the techspray "duster" cans? Is there such thing as an ESD safe canned air product?

Hi, Not really.

"In aerosol sprays, friction is generated as liquids race through the plastic tubes of the spray can. This creates powerful electrostatic charges (ESD) of up to 12,000 volts; ESD voltages as low as 150 volts can cause ESD damage." I Just copy & paste from a vendor.

Many companies try to say that they can do this, without any ESD damages. I have Not seen any scientific studies in such things. Yes, there are company's who are selling these products. Are they working? I don't know!

But on what level are we talking about? This is perhaps the most important issue; pre-mounted, loose components, components on a finished pcba? Consumer electronics or Telecom? Sincerely,

The most telling response is: Techspray doesn't include "Duster" on its list of ESD safe products.

Right, or should I say left... Sincerely,

BTW. The "duster" since it's in a closed container under pressure; when released, there will be moisture around the area. Water that is. Not so good on MSD-components...
