Bullet Proof Barcode Scanner

I'm looking for a handheld barcode scanner that will handle high resolution 1D and 2D symbologies. Some of our 1D codes are down to 3.3mil lines and your average scanner can't reliably scan that resolution. I've used PSC and Wasp equipment before but dread buying something online for a decent price only to find that it won't cut it.

Scanners have become a commodity item and finding someone local to allow for a demo is not bearing any fruit.

Any help here appreciated.

Thanks.

Does it have to be one for both 1D and 2D? We scan barcodes we print with a 200 DPI printer which works out to 5 mil wide lines with no problem. 2D barcodes need a completely different kind of scanner.

I know there are scanners that can do both but I"m wondering if they might not be as good with the 1D as a dedicated 1D only barcode scanner.

How many people have gone to 2D barcodes for general production use?

Stephen,

Good info - We currently do not use 2D barcodes but would like the option. I never know what customer requirement is going to come in the door next but I see your point.

Thanks.

We use HHP's IT4600GHD on fine 2D and 1D codes. Works great but a bit pricey... G

Hi Hoss,

you can check http://www.microscan.com/en-us/Home.aspx

Microscan Systems. They make all kinds of Scanners.

The only affiliation I have to Microscan is they are on my Reps. line card (Innovate sales /www.innovatesales.com) . and are known to be good scanners.

Regards, Boardhouse

We use Honeywell 3800GHD24E linear scanners for barcodes down to 3.5 mils with no problems (priced under $200). I looked a combo scanners (for 1D and 2D) that can do fine lines, but they are priced over $700. So we use a dedicated 2D scanner where necessary.
