anyone else besides mydata? they want over 200k for the my500, but was looking to find something with a lower price tag.

As far as I know, MYDATA is the only one with a jet printer in there asortment.

Ask yourself what advantage do you gain from a 200+K jet printer ?

I'm thinking you could buy 1000+ stencils with 200K

Milara has released a inline stencil printer with jet printer in same machine - combi functionality. Not as fast in terms of jetting speed as mydata (uses Asymtek jet head)

Can print only, jet only or both to say top up paste on certain areas after print...interesting concept.

Louie: Are you telling us that SPEED is the reason that you're considering this machine? Who cares how fast the printer runs, when the placement machine is slower? Crazy money!!!

not just speed, looking to reduce down time on having to re-do boards from bad stencil screening. also, the accuracy of placing solder paste down on PCB's. why would you want an employee spending so much time aligning fiducial marks from panel to panel when the machine can do that. other things come in place, but thats just for us. we are not trying to sell a jet printer, we are looking into getting one.

also think of the space u can save by getting rid of the stencils and reduction in set-up time (no more stencil/blade cleening, just load the file)

good point Sibbe, we also do a lot of engineering and changes from rev and having to order a new screen very time is a pain and money spent. no more having to wait for a screen to keep production running. has anyone been working with a solder jet printer? if so, please provide some details on hows its been for you. we are really interested in getting one, but would like some input from someone that has been using one already.

Louie & Sibbe: If that's what you're aiming to accomplish, why aren't you investigating used dispensers?

MY500 minimum dot diameter is 0.33 mm (0.013”) so you still need stencil for smaller dots. You are liable to couple of jet printing solder paste manufacturer and there where I live, only official Mydata distributor can sell those solder pastes. Also ejector need to be replaced periodically and thats not cheap at all.

I'm sure you could buy everything you need to make your own stencils in-house for way less than 200K - lasercut or photochemical etch. If you have someone local with a typesetter of photoplotter , photoetch should be really cheap to set up. I've also seen a PCB manufacturer make copper sheet stencils on a normal PCB line so maybe talk to whoever makes your PCBs.
