I am trying to decide what type of no clean flux I should use in our selective solder machine. We run both leaded and lead free and would like to use the same flux for both. What is everyone else using? Or do you have any recommendations?

I used Indium WF-9940 at the last place I was at for 5 years. We ran leaded and lead free product in our ERSAflow selective soldering machine with that flux type. It worked good for both applications. The place I am at now we have an Ersaflow selective machine as well, but we only use water soluble flux. For some reason though, I always still prefer AIM products over the others. Just my preference I guess.

We are using Kester 985M in our Pillarhouse Jade. We only run SnPb, but this is a newer formulation of flux that is suitable for both lead and lead free alloys.

Call the manufacturer of your selective soldering machine and get their advice. They typically have a list of fluxes that work well with their machines.

Hi, we have ERSA flow selective machine. We are using 420s-lf No-Clean flux (lead free process). It is water based. Before that we used for about 2 years in JS-EU-31 (KOKI) (alcohol based). It did excellent job (we moved to water based flux just because environmentally issues).

We also have a pillarhouse jade but opted for Kester 959T. The low solids content allows us to use a very small shot of flux thus resulting in low residue on the boards with great solder joints. Solderability is still good but had better results with the 965. The 965 is very thick and leaves the machine, along with the boards, caked in flux.
