I have a question for any Panasonic CM 402/602 users. We run Cree XPE/XPG/XPC LED's on our machines, and have struggled for years with the lights sticking in our nozzles. We have two types, I believe both designed by Cree, one picks the light up by the dome, and one goes over the dome to the base. The problem is the machine cannot break the vacuum or blow off the lights on either one every time. We will get a vacuum thick error check...remove part by hand..etc. some days are worse than others. We have checked our humidity in the machines,(25-35%)checked for static build up(0%). We can increase the air for the vacuum break, which is relatively successful but can wreak havoc with other parts. Anyone out there running the same nozzle type/LED's having seen this and how did you fix it? At the present time we are trying to "dry the LED's as it seems the silicon dome's are stickier than others. And yes we are trying to get Cree to help sort this out. Thanks

Try "Count on" Cree Led nozzles. http://www.smtnet.com/news/index.cfm?fuseaction=view_news≠ws_id=9466 We are getting ready to try them ourselves. Let us know how it goes.

good luck, PR

pr Are you having the same issues that we're experiencing?

I am new to the company but the story sounds the same. We have a new board coming in (with CREE LEDS) and I wanted to get in front of it, and found these nozzles. We are going to try them out as soon as we get the spending O.K. They are designed for it, so my hope is that they can perform.

good luck, PR

We bought two of the nozzles from count on tools. The jury is still out. The vacuum thick errors or the lights sticking at this time has dropped, I reduced the air for the vacuum break to a more reasonable level. There is still some work to do on fine tuning the machines for pick up, as the nozzles behave a little different, so we're still working through that. I'm optimistic at this point, more to come.

Chris, You asked if others are having these issues. I know for sure they are. I am not with Count On, but we make nozzles also. Cree has published drawings of the recomended nozzles in their "Soldering and Handling Guides" for several years. We made nozzles for all type of machines according to those drawings out of both stainless or black PEEK plastic depending on the vision requirements. These worked fairly well up to about a year or year and half ago, then we started getting reports of parts sticking to the nozzles. We understand Cree made some changes to not only the silicon dome, but also to the conformal coating on the base. Several months ago Cree started recomending the use of Teflon on some nozzles in their guides. We just made some XML nozzles for a Quad machine last week and their guide did not recomend the Teflon, so we tried it in stainless and the LEDs stuck no matter how much I polished the internal angle that contacted the dome. We made 2 more with Teflon inserts and the nozzles then released fine in our tests. I am waiting to hear if they work as well on the machine. Fred Nozzle Supply Company
