Conformal Coating Masking

The adhesive type is the problem generally - latex adhesives used are not compatible with the silicone. Humiseal offer silicone compatible tapes & dots although they are quite expensive. I found a 3M product which is compatible with silicone based coatings - it's called "Powder coat masking tape". ( Blue colour - don't have the 3M product number to hand.) This tape is tough to peel off after a thermal cure but is effective. Best advice is to forget the tape masking process and use masking boots if possible - for connectors try the mating connector for the type used. We also use custom machined masks which pay for themselves very quickly when compared to the masking and de-masking time required. For edge masking try using a plastic profile paper binder - you know the type you slide paper into for a report ! It's cheap and cheerful. Regards
