Our MY12 is having trouble picking both out of feeders and the TEX using the MIDAS head. The nozzle (spring or rigid) will go down and touch the part but won't pick it up. I get a Level too high error - the pick location isn't obstructed, part isn't flipped on edge. Vacuum appears to be good. Any thoughts?

It's been a while since my MYDATA days, but let's give this a shot. Did you try putting the tool away and picking it back up? Make sure your Midas Head is cleaned and the tool is lubricated properly, then do a Center Base Leveling Calibration. (I think that's what it was called.....) Also, if you haven't already, verify your component heights.

I'm somewhat frazzled by this one, not being too familiar with the MYs.

Head is clean, tried different tools, same tool# from another MY, and have run the Centering Base Level Calibration to no avail. The component heights are correct and the parts are at the level with the top of the carrier tape. The error message is throwing me, I shouldn't get it unless there's excessive force required for the rigid tool or the photo diode trips unexpectedly for the spring tip...right?

You can enter the service program for the MyData, can't remember exactly how, you have to exit out of tpsys to the command prompt and type service or something along those lines.

Then you can check the raw numbers for vacuum and force on the Midas head and the Hydra heads (if you have them). You can check to see if maybe the indicator that is inside of the Midas head is being tripped to easy causing the error.

Did you purchase the machine from Mydata? If so, give their tech support a call. They have been very helpful when I have called in.

Phil is on the right track. Try this.... Go into the service program, and bring up the vacuum force indicators. Manually install a spring loaded tool into the Midas head. Once the tool is in the head, press on the tip of the nozzle with your finger. The force indicator should go to zero.If it doesn’t you can try to calibrate it.

If that does not work, start looking at the force indicators themselves...then ribbon cables etc.

We bought from Mydata and recently had a new Midas head put in by Mydata and I've been on the phone with tech support. This has been a intermittent issue that's been hard to pin down.

If you're still having this problem, talk to Al at MyData about replacing the ribbon cable that is wrapped inside the head, and connected to the two LED's. It's a bit of a pain to replace this cable, but, it did fix the problem for us. The other potential issue is the encoder on the Z motor could be on it's way out.

The problem is still intermittent. It has a new MIDAS head, installed and calibrated by Mydata, FWIW. Usually we work around it by moving parts upstream (Fuji AIM). I'll post an update when I finally chase the issue down.

I would guess the FFX cable as metioned with the sensors inside the midas, that could of been damaged by a part or? Not a big deal to replace just remember how many turns the milar harness goes around. Also just loosen the rear screw there is a slot the black ring will slide.

Hello, we have problem with indicator. When we manually install a spring loaded tool into the Midas head, the force remain at 180. We can't use spring tools. Can you advise me how can we calibrate the force indicator and what else should I try to fix this problem? Thanks

I believe there is a force calibration menu option in the maintenance menu. From the main screen, choose exit to maintenance to get into the maintenance menus.

If you're still having force issues afterwards, you'll want to start hunting for broken wires...either from the head assembly to the control boards; or, consider replacing the large ribbon cable connected to the head (and looped under the x-track).
