Personal Dosimetry Badges for X-Ray

We currently have every operator of our X-Ray equipment wearing a personal dosimetry badge. I've been a part of other organizations where just the dosimetry badge was place on the machine itself. What's the general consensus on that and/or where can I find if there are any state or local regulations (in Virginia) regarding this?
