Have others seen a higher rate of machine downtime due to the cover tape on parts not pulling back properly. We have the same problem on the Jukis and Quads. About every 3 minutes the machine stops and the operator has to pull the tape back. And in the process, with Juki feeders, we lose a few parts, since you can not back the feeders up. Just wondering if others are having this same problem?

Have you looked at the cover tape wheel on these different feeders and made sure that they are turning correctly when the feeder is advanced? There's not too many things that could be wrong, either the wheel isn't turning properly and keeping the cover tape tight or the cover tape isn't being secured properly into the wheel / mechanism causing it to not take up the slack.

we quite often see this on our quads usually only on the 8mm feeders, sometimes the tape roller can become sticky as suggested. usually i just remove the roller and apply a grease to the screw so that it can move freely also make sure that the peel roller is in good condition :)

It is not the feeders having the issue. The tape on the strip of parts does not want to pull up easily. I just wondered if anyone else out there is having the same issue. Thanks for any feedback.

We had this issue with a few parts on our universal 8mm feeders. The set up was correct all mechanisms were working, even tried a new feeder. The spring in between the take up wheel and pick point just wasnt cutting it since the adheasion was too much. Thankfully these were parts we sent out to be put on tape and reel, so we could easily talk to the tech that actually did the work. Theres 2 different techniques they use to apply the cover tape pressure sensitive adheasive or heat sealing. We had the PSA and the pressure on their sealing machine was adjustable so we were able to scale it back and make it more peelable. We didnt come up with an easy fix for the parts we had and struggled through them, but we let the vendor know the issue and it hasnt happened again.

Is the problem with the same component or manufacturer? Just for kicks, load a different component on the same feeder. Run machine in trial mode and place only that component on double sided tape.

Hi !

I have the same problem with some rolls of tape, we did check the feeder magazines in our mydata machines but turns out the problem is with the plastic cover sometime it comes with just too much adhesive that the feeder magazine cant peel the plastic it doesn't have the necessary pull to do that you need to talk to the supplier to change the amount of adhesive in the rolls

We all seem to have forgotten about cover tape peel force testers. GPD makes them as do others I suppose. I would ask the tape and reel house if they have a tester. If they don't I would consider using someone else. Otherwise as another poster stated, the gummy stuff from the pressure sealed tape has a tendency to build up on the intricate parts of tape feeders causing resistance in the peeling force. If the cover tape gets pulled through a slot or around a sheet metal edge make sure there is no build up of the cover tape material in these areas especially.
