We are looking at buying a dedicated machine for cleaning misprints. Does anyone have any experience with Smart Sonic or the other manufacturers?

Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks

We used to scrape off the paste with a plastic putty knife and then place the boards in our Smart Sonic stencil cleaner that we used to clean the stencils in. It worked well.

Is there any particular reason you're looking at getting a dedicated machine?!

The first question that pops to mind is...are you having so many mis-prints that you need dedicated equipment at the site to mitigate the issue? If so, I know you've been around enough to start looking at improving your printing process, rather than putting a dedicated (expensive) bandaid in place.

The second question is, why not just use your current wash process? If you're using water soluble paste, send the board down the wash process, and get it back to the print process after drying (but do ensure it's quite dry, you don't want any excess moisture interfering with your paste or explosively outgassing in reflow!).

You can just get any ultrasonic bath - the ones they use for jewelry will work. Just get the right size based on your largest boards.

We want a dedicated machine because we have some concerns with SMT adhesive residue that is in the bath contaminating boards. We are getting pretty heavy into class 3 so everything has to be pretty much perfect. We run 2 shifts and have 5 lines so when the SPI machines find failures or someone puts their thumb in a board etc etc.

We run very little water wash paste.

Ahh...now I understand.

So much for any of my solutions :)
