I am having a problem producing clean boards when i run them through my new machine. Currently i use an Electrovert system that uses trays and we are trying to upgrade our equipment so I bought a SHEO 8250 and it is making the boards dirty and lots of bridging. I dip the boards in FLUX NC 264-5 for both machines and only the boards run through the Electrovert are useable. I had the solder in both machines tested and they are exactly the same. I can not figure out how to fix the problem. i have messed with the per-heaters and changed the flux but nothing is working. I dont have the Air or Nitrogen hooked up for the machine because the regulators were broken but the Electrovert doesnt have any air or gas either. Any Thoughts or ideas on what is going on.

It probably has something to do with the wave settings (dynamics). Check for differences between the 2 waves. For clues on what to look for check here: http://www.interfluxusa.com/Datasheets/PDF/Implementing-No-Residue-Technology.pdf

Are you're preheat settings the same? Are you sure you're not burning off the flux before it gets to the pot?

we set the pre heaters the same as the Electrovert. On the SHEO wave solder it is a much longer conveyor so we only turned on the last two pre heaters to match the Electrovert

If you havent already resolved the issue. I would recommend running a wave profiler and see if you are actually getting the same thermal profile in each machine. Generally speaking you need to run different preheater settings for different brand waves as the designs are different and they have different heat transfer rates to the board.

We had a SMT specialist come in and go over everything we were doing wrong! We were dipping the boards rather than spraying them, had the pre-heaters set way to low, the conveyor was going too fast, and the actual wave was in the machine the wrong way! So after fixing that we have run a few test boards through and we are getting close to the quality we want! There is still a dull film building up and a milky white residue on the boards but we are just playing with the temperatures now.
