MPM Accuflex fails to initialize powered rail | 18 July, 2014

We've got an MPM Accuflex printer that generally works great, but we've had a recurring problem. The powered rail (rear rail) fails to initialize. Sometimes all it takes is restarting the machine to get it to work. At the suggestion of the repair tech we bought the machine from, I've thoroughly cleans the lead screws, and lubricated them. I've lubricated the bushing for the idler pulleys, and finally replaced the very expensive drive motor. And it failed again this morning.

I know the rails are square, the lead screws are clean, and the motor should be good. Idler pulleys are turning with no issues.

I feel like it has to be software or motor driver related since restarting the computer sometimes works.

Any thoughts?

We had this. The anti-backlash nuts were binding. We took them apart, chased the threads with a tap and re-assembled with slightly less pre-load. Hasn't been a problem since.

We have this problem too, when the machine initializes the conveyor gets blocked. Even manualy when turning the poley to adjust de rail with. We noticed that the anti-backlash nuts get very tight and thats what burnet our poley motor. Where coul I buy replacement nuts? Thanks for the replies.

I dealt with the same issue for a month or so. We jumped through a lot of hoops, replaced both lead screws, verified the motor was good, a ton of stuff.

Ended up being an intermittent wire connection between the control board and the conveyor width adjust motor. re-wired the harness and everything started acting the way it was supposed to. Not trying to say that's what yours is doing, but if you can adjust them by hand without them binding up it's a possibility.

We also had this problem and found similar results with the anti-backlash nuts binding. We went through the process of cleaning the lead screws and the nuts which resolved the problem for about 6 months only to have it return.

We learned that the lead screws are Teflon coated and they should not have any lubricant on them and in fact that any lubricant on it would damage the lead screw. The lead screws should look dark black without any metal showing through. Ours were more gray in color with small slivers of silver showing through indicating that the Teflon coating was thinning and wearing off exposing the lead screw metal.

We ended up replacing both lead screws in the beginning of the year and have not had an issue since.
