Press fit PEM insertion haloing | 12 January, 2015

We have some round press fit pems that we get some bad haloing on the pcb. Has anyone come across a solution for this? We have made sure the hole size and tooling we use is all correct. Picture of our issue -> http://postimg.org/image/l62gfmyp5/

Oh yeah, I've seen this before!

Generally, if the hole sizes are correct (including plating), and the PEMs are within spec, we've found that this is most commonly caused by insufficient support of the PCB during insertion.

If you can eliminate support as the issue, the next level cause has been found to be operator error...either inserting the PEMs at an angle to the hole, or, using too much force to insert them into the board.
