Juki2000 vs YamahaYV100 or 88 | 27 July, 2001

We are looking at another pick&place machine for our production line and are leaning towards the Juki2000 series and the YamahaYV series machines. I would like any feedback from those in the industry who have used either of these machines. Also we currently use SMS-line control for our 'Old' Yamaha line and would like to know if others have SMS and use it on a Juki line? - or is there some other software that can control all machine types and perform line balancing etc. Thanks MikeK

In the U.S. you cannot buy Yamaha machines. Assembleon (previously Phillips) exclusively markets Yamaha machines in the U.S. and names the machines after rocks.

I think the YV100 is sold as either the Topaz or Sapphire by Assembleon.

The YV100X is Phillips TopazX in the U.S. while the YV88 is the Emerald. Now, We find the Juki's 2020 and 2030 more superior than Yamaha's or Philip's because of their flexibility in component handling and the standard features that come with the Jukis compare to those with the EmeraldX or TopazX. With the Juki 2000 series you have the flexibility, accuracy and throughput with more standard features. I have not handled any Emerald or Topaz yet but that's what we've come up when we compared and buy-off those machines. As for your SMS, never heard about that yet. What's that?

hope that helps

I would like to introduce you to our TIMMS system. This includes full multi-vendor programming and line balancing support, and can be used as part of an overall total solution for the shop-floor.

The TIMMS (Totally Integrated Manufacturing System) is a real-time manufacturing and materials control system for use in the electronics circuit board manufacturing environment. This system has only just been released into the open market, by Sony, but has been in use exptensively within Sony for many years. This sophisticated production control system is based on Windows NT/2000, and includes web-access tools - enabling anyone to overview the entire production area through a standard web-browser. TIMMS is a shop-floor focused system, complimentary to any existing MRP system, written by Sony's own production engineers working together from plants all over the world over the last ten years.

The key areas of benefit from TIMMS are: - Control - being able to organize and manage processes most effectively (e.g. pull-system materials from the machines) - Visibility - a real-time informational displays of progress, with problems being alerted to responsible people. - Productivity - sophisticated reporting systems enabling analysis of lost opportunities. - Efficiency - generating the highest program efficiencies. - Flexibility - one system covers all machines

Using the TIMMS software, your company will realize the following benefits, which differentiate your business over the competition:

1) Total control of management of materials internally, using bar-coding and simple "electronic kanban" controls. - Eliminate needless material supply delays - Reduce materials WIP in production area. - Maintain stock accuracy ands integrity inside MRP. - Eliminate mistakes for material supply on machines. - Have full parts trace-ability - reducing potential needless re-work. - Accurate spoilage reporting.

2) Monitor shop floor processes in real time: - Automated, accurate and consistent data collection. - See the production progress against schedule - Solve problems before they become significant - Immediately identify out-of-control processes, and rectify.

3) Programming: - Make accurate high-efficiency programs. - Multi-Vendor lines supported - Line balancing optimisation - Full process simulation - do it right the first time! - Standard user operation for programming of any Vendor's machines. - Direct download of programs to machines (where capable).

4) Schedule Monitoring: - Quickly and easily identify potential process bottlenecks, and avoid them. - Alerts in case product will not satisfy customer's requirement. - Easy visible display of progress. - Real-time completions information

Michael,

Please keep in mind that this is an SMT Forum, designed to exchange technical information and opinions. While you are free to suggest that a reader investigate a particlar product or service, please save the full-blown advertising for SMT or Circuits Assembly Magazine. If you have picked up a recent wafer thin copy of these publications you will notice that they have PLENTY of advertising space available!
