PCB Surface Finishing for good solderability & rework | 15 July, 2015

Hi brothers, Can anyone give me some clear ideas that which surface finishing is the best for PCBs used for LED TV motherboard production?

Some says that OSP is good but it is not good for double sided board. So I am a bit confused in between HASL,OSP and Immersion plating.

If you are using lead solder (SnPb) HASL is a good choice. If you are using lead-free (RoHS compliant) solder then I would recommend Immersion Gold (ENIG).

From my experience Electroless Nickel Immersion Gold or ENIG finish gives the best results but does cost more than other available finishes. It has good solderabilty, good shelf life and is flat.

Details of other available PCB surface finishes can be seen here:-

ENIG finished is recommend. But the price is a little higher.

For the PCB, I recommend Elecrow PCB service. You will see the PCB fabricated there is really cheap and the quality is really good.

Hi Syed,

I'm a PCB engineer from China.

First:Immersion gold surface finish is the best for PCBs.

Second:HASL(Lead-Free HASL)

Then:HAL(with lead)

The cheapest surface finish is OSP(After 15 days will be oxidized)
