Can we check polarity and upside downs on My100?

Can we check polarity and upside downs on My100? | 30 July, 2015

In our production line we use the pick and placer My100 by Mycronics. We get a lot of feedback from quality department about IC's being placed upside down, wrong polarity. (Wrong polarity usually already delivered to us, or IC's placed in the sticks by hand.) Does the My100 have a functionality how components will be placed. Like a build in inspection tool maybe?

We are running a Mydata (Micronic) MY15E. The MY100 is the next generation after the MYxxE series. As far as I know, there is no way for the machine itself to check the polarity of ICs to see if 1 or more are in the tube or reel different from all the others. Best thing you can do is check each tube visually for wrong polarities and fix them before you put the tube on the machine.

As for upside down ICs, we do get an occasional one on our machine. As along as the settings for nozzle speeds, component height, tape speeds, tube settings, etc. are all correct, upside down ICs should be very infrequent. If 1 or more of those settings are wrong, the machine can flip an IC.

For upside down and rotated parts try using the index mark (F6) in the package database for that component, at least then the machine should look for a unique feature on the bottom and if it cannot find it the part will be rejected. For the index mark you need a feature on the bottom of the IC that does not exist on the top or other areas of the bottom.
