Philips Topaz - conveyor motor doesn't work | 31 August, 2015

Dear Users!

I have a Topaz pick&place machine, but the conveyor motor is not working.

1st test - production: Start production in "operation" menu: if I put the PCB the entrace of machine, the assembly head-bank picks up the first 8 components (precede pick is ON) and waits for transfer. After 5-8 seconds the machine throws "PCB Transfer Error" If I switched the PCB transfer mode into manual and adjusted the PCB into the correct mounting position, the machine could be working well, but this mode is very annoying.

2nd test - mechanic: With my hand, I can rotate the gear output of the motor, and conveyor follows the rotation. It needs equal force if machine is switched off or conveyor motor is switched on/off in menu. I didn't hear any sound while motor was switched on.

3rd test - manual switch on: In submenu "conveyor units" I switched on the conveyor motor manually (while covers are closed and machine is not in emergency-stop state. The motor is not working. In menu "output monitor" I switched on the conveyor motor manually, checked the option "slow" and "reverse" mode. The motor is not working. Near the trafo, I've found the control relay of conveyor motor, and I can hear a thick if I switch on/off the motor.

4th test - motor replacement: I have a same type motor(Panasonic M8RX25G4L) and replaced. The motor is not working.

Please help me.

I'm not familiar with you machine but it seems the problem is not the motor. if there's a manual I/O, switch on your conveyor from there and check if there's a voltage going into the motor.Check the control boards for the conveyor, relays and sensors.

Hi,

1. Take a multi meter and measure the voltage - I assume it is a DC motor(probably 24V). If you don't, check power supply,cable, relays and Driver for the motor. If you do have voltage, check sensors(sometimes sensor activated may stop your conveyor to move). Another possibility is still the driver controlling these motors.

Problem is solved!

There wasn't voltage on motor inputs (only 5-10V AC) when the motor connected correctly, but was ~210V AC without motor. Firstly, I exchanged the motor speed control relay (Panasonic G-series type), but the result was same. (the another machine could work with controller)

Final: I pulled out and back the cables on the YAMAHA I/O board: now, the conveyor motor is working!

for remark: the motor is a 2-phase AC type with external 9.5 uF capacitor. It connects to the speed control unit, the feedback comes from a magnetic generator at the edge of motor.
