Nickel pad for spot welding on PCB | 1 October, 2016

I have seen a small nickel pad (probably) soldered on PCB which is used to spot weld the other nickel strip coming from battery. I have seen them in chinese protection boards. I need to know how and where I can find them? Is there any technical name for this product?

Hi Nikhilesh,

It was a long time ago, but we used to buy the nickel in reels then had a cut and feed station on the smt machine with selectable sizes.

We did many types of boards in very large volumes, and usually the Nickel strip was soldered to the PCB first then spot welded onto the battery afterwards.

If you want just a small tab on the PCB you could buy cut tabs from a Nickel supplier and have them taped & reeled for your SMT process.

Hope that helps, Rob.
