U.S. PCB Suppliers 48" boards | 6 November, 2017

Hello,

I'm looking for multiple U.S. based PCB manufacturers that can fabricate 48" (4 foot) prototype boards from gerber files. I am having trouble finding any that can do this large of a board locally, only in China.

We build a good number of assemblies from 30-48 inches, but I believe all of the boards are produced "off-shore".

When it comes to PCB assembly services, you have to look for manufacturing, testing, cable assemblies, cable harnesses, and more. When you are in need of PCB assembly services and want to avoid all hassles, contact Optimatech and sit back and relax.

Can you get away with 2 x 2ft with either a flex joiner or backplane type connectors to turn into a 4ft board? if you can get your panel down to that it means a lot more potential suppliers

That's what I said when we started talking about 48inch boards. Everything changes. New printer, bigger stencils, new pick & place. Different even profiling (the board is in 3 zones at the same time). Plus board racks don't work well. The old Board depaneler wasn't going to work. New boxes to ship 4ft boards.

Plus you start finding out that your conveyor belts may not be a aligned as you thought.

The logistical changes are huge, just to avoid using two jumper wires.

I agree with everything you just said. Unfortunately when you are a CM, you must do as the customer says. A lot of companies do jump two 2-ft boards together because it just makes more sense to do it that way.

Thanks for all the responses. It sounds like overseas really is the only competition right now when it comes to manufacturing that large of a raw PCB.

Competition? So you are a US company that makes 48" PCBs?

We put components on the boards we purchase from overseas. So it depends on what you mean by make or manufacture. I realize that I didn't word that the best when I said competition. There are overseas companies that compete for our business but I was looking for better lead time when it comes to prototype orders.

Gotcha. We are a CM and we build 48" LED boards. But we buy all of our long PCBs off shore.

Don't worry about this. There are lots of PCB suppliers around the web. Just need a little bit of time. Right now i get this one https://www.wellpcb.com/content/quality-assurance.html All of them are good quality and reliable.
