Quad IV-c with Y axis problem

Quad IV-c with Y-axis problem | 26 January, 2019

I'm with an annoying problem with an IV-c. Almost all the time the Y-axis "stuck" when the machine is homing. The motor tries to move the axis but only make a sound. If I move the axis by hand it can complete the homing and then goes to the IDLE.

Some RARE times, the homing happens without any problem.

The fun fact, using the HHT the Y-axis moves all the extension without any problem.

I tried to change MOD CODE 44 and 45, but didn't help. My first guess was to decrease the speed a little, but I don't know if these CODES do the trick.

Any help is appreciated, thanks

The y-axis on that machine is left to right. If this is the axis you are having a problem with....check the motor. I have had to tighten the tension on it before. If you notice you lose steps after running for a while then this is going to be the issue. There is a mod code for machine speed. Set it to 2 and see if it runs any better.

good luck, Bob

Yes, the left to right movement. The belt looks tight. I will check for loose steps, thanks for the tip. I can't find a mod code for overall speed setting. Do you remember the number?

You could also try swapping the motion cards. X and Y are swappable I believe. And see if the problem goes to the X. I have had to do that in the past for troubleshooting. It has been awhile since I have touched a IVC, but I loved those machines.

mod code 53. make it 2...this speed setting is closer to fast than slow.

MM, exchange the cards doesn't make any difference. The problem happens when the machine is moving from left to right. Right to left works all the time.

bobpan, thanks, I completely missed this one. The default was 0 and now is set to 1. The build cycle is slow now (i don't care anyway since I just build a few PCBs at a time), but the homing/reset seems to happen at full speed, not related to the mod 53. Will try a few more resets to see...

Another semi-related question: are the four motion cards the same? (except for the dips, I guess).

I have a spare one, marked as T motion, all dips to up position. Can I use as X or Y, if I match the dips?

The boards look like to have the same components

x and y are the same...just change switches. t and z are the same...just change switches.

The voltages on the cards are different(x/y same--t/z same)....i do have a procedure somewhere that allows you to make an x/y card into a t/z card.

good luck Bob

oh! Please let me know if you find that info, it would be great to have a spare that can be plugged anywhere. You never know when some of these old cards will fail.

Thanks bobpan!

done, mod code 53, "2" is faster than "1". Actually, it looks like the default "0" setting, but somehow it's working a lot better than the "0".

Thanks bobpan, I believe this is the one!

2 is a little slower than 0.

leave me your email address and i will send you the procedure.
