Conformal Coating Flexible PCBs | 9 May, 2019

Hello SMTA,

We have some flex board assemblies that will require conformal coating. Coating rigid boards is nothing new, but this will be our first with flex.

Are there any challenges associated with coating flex PCBs?

on this particular assembly I only have to apply coating to the solder connections. But I am thinking ahead to future assemblies and what challenges may come up if the entire board will need to be coated.

What masking materials can be used on the flexible portions? Same as with Rigid? Are there reliability issues with the coating over time at the places where rigid meets flex?

Any hints, tips, tricks, or concerns to keep in mind would be helpful!

Thanks!

We have never coated flexible circuits, although these guys apparently do as a part of their FC fabrication services:

Thanks for the option. Might be a good resource if we cannot achieve what we're looking for.

Conformal coating is a protective polymer film or chemical coating that seals off the vulnerable circuits. I've used the conformal coating flexible PCB from Capel Technology Co.Ltd and there are many types of circuit board produced used by conformal coating flexible PCB for sale. Anyway, if you want to know more, you could check their website.
