SMT Samtec dual edge connector assembly help | 8 January, 2020

We have a PCB with the dual sided connector that slides on from the edge and has leads on the top and bottom sides of the PCB. It has 20 leads on each side of the PCB with with about .8mm pitch. The PCB also has a gold grounding strip on the edge for the connector.

Has anyone had any manufacturing experience with this type of connector and how they did it that is willing to share?

Did you screen print both sides of the PCB and then slide on the connector during second assembly after applying paste manually to the edge of the PCB? Did you leave the bottom side without paste and then manually hand solder the bottom side pins at post SMT?

I am looking for ways to minimize solder bridging and hand soldering.

Thanks, Rob

sounds weird, part number?

Never mind here is something like that and the processing data is right there, seems to make sense they certainly wouldn't want you to be soldering manually as standard. http://suddendocs.samtec.com/literature/em_tectalk8a_lr.pdf" target="_blank">http://suddendocs.samtec.com/literature/em_tectalk8a_lr.pdf Even so its still a fairly manual process so I guess you really have to want to use this type of connector because its a whole process in itself and I bet the whole family is a special order stocked bloody nowhere part (much like most of SAMTECs weird and wonderfulls)
