SMT Connectors: Corner legs lifts.

Hej, we have some connectors placed on our PCB. 2*30legs 0.5

After reflow we detect lifted legs in the AOI. Always on the outer corners.

Is this something ye have experienced? And any possible solutions?

Stuff we have tried: Checking the coplanarity of the Components. Lowering tempreture in reflow. increasing the stencil thickness slightly.

Any other ideas on what I could be missing?

Hej back at ya

Your connectors could be warping during reflow. Find out by putting a connector on a hot plate and increasing the temperature. If so, you might get away with a simple fix of rotating the board 90* on your reflow oven conveyor.

If you don't get lucky, troubleshoot your connector issue like you would in order to solve BGA warping. In this, consider the usual three approaches: 1. attempt to minimize warping of component or board, 2. increase the volume of solder in the problem areas, or 3. increase flux activity at the end of the profile.

Thanks Dave,

We have avoided rotating the board as it is so long but we will test. Maybe we will to try screen it in one direction and then rotate it before the oven.

We have the maximum solder we can get there at the moment. The reflow engineer says the the profile cant be adjusted more.

Try preheating the connectors
