I am desperate. I have an 80S15 with a single line controller that we program with and control our 80S15 machine. Everything has been working great until last month. We have not done any changes, and no new programs or jobs. We went to start the PC and machine and have a problem.

The line controller PC works great if we do not have the 80S15 turned on. We can pull up and look at anything and everything.

As soon as we turn on the 80S15 the line controller will freeze up. We can click on anything and it will open a new window, but nothing will be displayed, and jobs started do not send, and you can not cancel, stop or do anything except close the window. We have to reboot the system, and if the machine is on, the PC will not fully load the line controller software, the software will not display the equipment. If we shut down the 80S15 and reboot the PC works again.

When the 80S15 is booted, even with PC on it ask "with or without line" if we say with line it just shows "waiting on line controller".

Any advice?

We are a small company and have no funds to upgrade our machine and it has been down for over a month.

Any help you can give me is more than appreciated.

My advice for what it is worth.

Your description of the problem at first glance suggests a communication problem, now is it the bus, the SMT machine or the PC. The bus could have a short or an open. The PC could have a dud controller card. or so could the SMT machine. Or and this is the forth possibility something could be happening in the SMT machine, like a component stuck in a head or on a rail, in a bearing, which the machine picks up as an error, which then leads to a weird failure.

Remember, not all error messages on a machine reflect root causes correctly!

Or just call a tech from Siemens

I used to work with S15/F3, was a 10 years ago.

1. Test your machine controllers and station controllers. Load the last program with actuell command. 2. You can check what happening in the SiPlace, switch the monitor to MC, let see all bootup perfectly. 3. Shutdown everything, SiPlace (both machine controllers MC, station controllers SC/Pac) and Linie Controller too (SR or LR). Unplug bus cable, clean them (cable connection and PCB connector too), reconnect LC and Siplaces. Start LC, bootup until everything load up (LGU, etc), after that bootup your Siplaces. In the past I had a lot trouble with synch between LC, Siplaces if the LC wasn't bootup, softwares loaded properly 4. If you haven't success, check cable again, measure for short or cut. Load LC again, after that Siplaces. 5. Check the communication board in your LC.

Hello Kristof, We use 1 PC which does line control and programming. We always boot the PC up first, then when it is fully booted, then we turn the machine on, we let it zero set, then we send the job over (this is how we do it when everything works).

I have a second PC, but it doesn't have the software loaded for Line Control, so I couldn't check to see if that fixed things. We tried copying everything for our LC to diskette but for some reason it would not load everything on the 2nd PC. I have the diskettes I can install on the 2nd machine, but it does not have a tape drive. Do you think a format and reinstall would fix this. Also does your guide explain how to format a Unix PC?

I just ordered a new cable, although this one seems fine.

The only other card we have is from an older machine, and it didn't seem to fix the problem either.

We have the software and our PC has been running the machine for approx 10 years. I just don't know why all of a sudden it decided to have this problem. :(

Also I have the software if you think I can reinstall from the diskettes.

it is one of both: 1. Communication error - try to initialize machine with line controller OFF. This should tell you if machine can initialize on its own and if the problem is on the machine. Try without the feeder carts, look at the cards in the machine to see if any card indicates error or red light. Check all cables, replug them bend them, measure them, replace them. 2. Software/PC issue - you will have no choice but to purchase software/machine or station or may be new PC or PC parts for machine or station.I would start with network cards.

You should be able to operate/troubleshoot machine on its own. Not sure if you have to switch some key on the back to change the mode, or it will initialize on its own using the last program that has been loaded....it's been awhile. Line computer down will not let you load anything new.

With LC off, the machine when told "Without LC" will zero set. It displays Error 746. After zero set, turn LC on, and it hangs up.

Error 746 is IEC blocked, solutions Reboot machine and PC. And we know, rebooting isn't getting me anywhere.

What card is the IEC located on? Also there are no Red Lights displaying.

Tried with the key in both positions, it didn't change anything.

I have a slightly older machine that I would swap cards out if I knew which ones to change. Thank you Katrina

if the machine will zero on its own, there is nothing wrong with machine itself. You can now look into network cards in both line computer and line PC.

I have replaced both cards on the machine and the card in the PC. I have also replaced the cable.

I can see where the machine is sending the request for data (by the screen shoots above). And I can see the PC is seeing something from the machine by the fact the PC freezes up when the machine is turned on.

I'm really stumped. I don't know if there is a software glitch, that changed the IEC address. i don't know how to look on the machine to see what the machine says it is. Could it be a time stamp difference, and if so, how would I change the machine time?
