I have a part I am trying to get my assembleon emerald xi to see and I am having trouble. Any help building this part would be greatly appreciated. Laird 451-00002 https://www.digikey.com/products/en?keywords=776-451-00002dkr-nd

I guess the link you sent shows Top Side of the component. Send a picture of the bottom side - which the camera will see and I may be able to help.

Hi. Guessing that you are operational by now? If not, consider to use BGA definition and use the editor to define where the bottom side pads are or are not. Just our 2 bits input. The Assembleon X / Yamaha units are quite flexible - using an electronic feeder and special nozzle out of Shenzhen, we are picking and placing 01005 with our old beast. Recently trained the same unit to vision inspect 1.0*1.0 XDFN package and WLCSP-16 devices (1.4*1.4mm). Impressive. Took hours to train but working well.

May I ask what electronic feeder you are using? I thought they could only use CLs? (We have an Opal Xii)

Hi. Heck no! First, you should find out the Yamaha equivalent of your machine, if known - that is a more common reference when sourcing parts. While we have no affiliation with the vendor other than a very positive history of sourcing a laundry list of items at very affordable costs for the past 6 months, consider highly to contact Elissa (smtwenzhan@163.com). Excellent service. The company is http://www.smtwenzhan.com and they have spare parts for anything you can name. We have sourced a set of replacement nozzles for our FNC heads and as noted the electronic feeder. Using this electronic feeder that works from 24V (you will see a compatible power socket near the machine front and back where the feeder carts dock). Next, this feeder will detect / sense the air from the machine that would have advanced the feeder pocket but convert this air pressure to a stepper motor advancement step. Suggest that you consider to test 1 such electronic feeder which they build there and also sell spare parts for any such repairs. They also sell the CL feeder copies at very low cost but do not recommend the GREEN handle feeders for the tiny 01005 / 0201 parts. Our YV88X machine is able to place 01005 accurately everytime - the pick up is 95%++ there - the real issue being that the very small part will lift by the edge and then solder the same way - technically all good but nice to see it flat. Do ask Elissa to test the feeder before shipping the feeder. We can pick and place 0201 / 0402 in our sleep with the CL and electronic feeders sourced through her. Also she has supplied us with the grease; o-rings; air filters for our Yamaha / Assembleon SMT and Ekra printer. Our solder mixer is on our next wish list from this vendor. Good luck!

Woah! That's wild! I never knew that such a feeder existed. Do you have a link to that specific feeder on the site so I can look at it? I couldn't find it on there when I looked.

Another question for you.. I know the blue handle is used for 0402's while the green handle is for 0201's. But the pitch of them is the same, so what is the actual real difference between them?

Thanks a lot.

The blue handle CL feeders are 4mm advancement pocket to pocket - suitable for 0402 devices.

The green handle CL feedersare 2mm advancement pocket to pocket - suitable for 0201 / 01005 devices.

According to Elissa, she did not recommend the use of the green handle feeders as they are not reliable - the electronic feeders are much better and used by the industry.

She has all the parts you could possibly want for your machines. It would be amazing to have the synergy of technology we see in Shenzhen - imagine to be able to buy tech and use it the same business day!!

From a quick summary:

a) the electronic feeder can be used to advance 2mm or 4mm steps (pocket to pocket). There are digital pressure switches to advance / configure the steps. So you can use the same feeder to replace your traditional GREEN or BLUE handle feeders.

b) when we found out about the GREEN handle feeders, Elissa noted that it is not very reliable and the electronic version should be considered. It is more costly but best for Elissa to quote you. We paid under $200 USD for the electronic feeder. The GREEN / BLUE handle feeders are about ~$60 USD out of Shenzhen, CN. We have many blue and black handle CL feeders from Shenzhen (Elissa) and others - they are all solid to use for 0402 / 0603, etc.

Keep in mind that for the electronic feeders, you will need a 24V supply for each such feeder. They do sell 24V panels with power supplies but we have not taken that plunge. For now, we have 3 electronic feeders in the building. Originally did find that the side large BLUE plate on the feeder construction was rubbing the inside advancement gear so that messed up the pocket to pocket movement. For this reason, please be sure to ask them to test and package securely. They did send us replacement parts to fix our one sloppy rubbing feeder. Now the one repaired e-feeder is stable.

c) they also build custom nozzles. For our YV88X, the support for 01005 was impossible from Yamaha. Yet, with the custom nozzle from Elissa (~$30 USD), we are doing the impossible. The 0201 / 0402 placements are very simple.

We have also trained our machine to pick and place 1.0*1.0 XDFN LDO devices and the ICE40UL1K WLCSP 16 ball device (1.4*1.4mm) - took some quality time but we are stable now.

See attached pix. Take pix of your machine and as noted, better if you can relate to the Yamaha p/n for your machine. Assembleon was using Yamaha models under private label.

Hope this helps.

Posting a few more pix on how the 24V is sourced from our Emerald-X (Yamaha YV88X) which looks very similar to your machine. Look for the power supply connector for the dump feeder (which we bought used out of Shenzhen - working well). The green belt on our dump feeder will need replacing in the future but they sell those as well, of course.

The shipping from Shenzhen or Asia to USA / Canada is a bit crazy right now due to covid-19. From our experience, DHL appears to be very stable, then Fedex and finally UPS - in this order. For our SMT REEL carts we have purchased from Elissa - they will be arriving to us via ocean freight due to the heavy metal. Consider the same for larger and bulky purchases.

Hope this is all clear.

Thanks so much for all your help! That's amazing that electric feeders like that exist. I will definitely be reaching out to them and evaluating them.

I think you may be made a typo though. The standard black handle 8mm feeders have a 4mm pitch. Then the blue handle and the green have a 2mm pitch I believe? My question is since green and black have same pitch, why is blue for 0402s, and green 0201's?

Elissa can confirm the details of the feeder pitches / differences but I do recall that the green handle CL feeders are for 0201. We never did source the green handle feeders even though they appear to be quite common. The electronic feeder works fine for the 0201 / 01005 devices.
