Mirtec MV-7U Laser Height Measurment | 7 August, 2020

Does anyone have a comprehensive manual or some pages on how to setup/how the laser height functions work on a Mirtec MV-7U? (Mirtec Inspector 4.5.6) Even a sentence describing what each input for these tools do would be amazing.

I FINALLY was able to figure out how to calibrate the laser offset so the dot is exactly where the cross hair is.

When using the lifted leg measurement: The only issue is now the laser is not returning consistent values. I set up a reference measurement beside the leg then put the two boxes from the lifted lead tool across the leads. Set up both boxes to have identical settings (is this necessary or just the main box?) then run the laser. Regardless of what ever filter or values i use i constantly get random measurements. Min max gives 10mm tall legs, leg counting gives anywhere from 5 to 156 legs on a 6 leg part (when no settings have changed). Sometimes the laser moves across the legs, sometimes the laser just sits in the middle of the legs...

When using the Height Checker: The measurements seem off, not reading exactly what my calipers are reading. This leads me to believe maybe i have the laser offset not calibrated correctly?

Should the laser dot be exactly where the cross hair is? How does the laser measure? Is it a single dot or is it a cone measurement? How do i get 4 corner measurements for BGAs?

Thanks all, I can post the exact steps on how i calibrated the laser dot to the cross hairs if anyone else is having trouble with that, maybe i am just dumb but that kicked my ass for like 30 minutes trying to get that to work.

Also yes I know about Mirtec's second owner program but it is not an option considering the cost of that is almost as much as it cost to buy the machine.

Does anyone have like a developer manual that gives in depth explanation of the functions/tools for the inspector software? I have a quick start guide that gives you basic explanations of the tools but nothing that describes what inputs do exactly.

Best, GR

The user manual you ca just request from Mirtec and they will send it to you. They supply electronic version for the last years, so try to find it somewhere on your machine PC first.

I was told by Mirtec I could not get any manuals without buying the second owner support.

I have a simple manual that goes over making a program, creating parts. That manual covers using the Mount inspect, IC inspect, Chip inspect tools but nothing else.

Do you have a manual that covers the other tools that you would be willing to share?

Due Diligence Post:

Figured out my issue with the laser itself, it was set up in RS422 mode and it should have been setup in 0-10v analog out.

As far as actually using the tools i have not got that far yet but I will DD again when I get that far. I will also follow up with the calibrating the rotation offset process. It seems whoever had this machine before me really messed up some settings regarding the laser...
