Hi SMT members,

New member here. I have a few questions about the industry standard coating processes to help me investigate if our R&D company's technology would be valuable for your industry.

1. How crucial is the quality of the coating process to our manufacturing? What does the quality control process look like? What is the industry average for scrap?

2. What is your product loss, or coating efficiency rate?

3. What type of coating process is typical in the industry? Acid washing, etc.?

If you are curious why I am asking these questions, our company owns the patent for a coating process that is 100% green, no hazardous by-products, and 100% efficient, meaning no precious metal loss during the coating process as well as being 40x quicker than traditional coating.

Almost all the people here buy boards with the metal already plated on. We are mostly assembly people. The ones you really want to talk to are PCB fab people.

And if you want to look into plating PCBs, I would suggest you look up Black Pad. It hasn't been a problem for 10-15 years but I believe that there are still some companies that will not use electroless gold immersion nickel (ENIG) boards.

Personally I would like to be able to coat with carbon in a tetrahedral crystal pattern.
