Quad 4c MK2, vision problems | 23 December, 2020

Hi, I'm using a "ye olde" Quad 4c Mk2 built in 1995 for eight years. During that period I had to change 3 HDD (now it runs a compact flash with and free DOS), 3 Z-rod bellows,3 laser heads, some monitors, nozzles and misc parts. Despite that it has the destiny of dinosaurs, it is a work horse and runs and runs... But today a new failure appeared: A red alarm "Icos Data Error" on Central Controller screen. If somebody has some advice about troubleshut this problem I will infinitelly appreciate it. Best regards Merry Xmass And let this year end at once!

Hello Marcelo, When you initialize the system in central controller...does it see mvs? Will a different job that you ran before work or does the same error happen? When do you see this error.

Hi Bob. When I initialize the system, all functions appears. In "Utilities/Initialize System Comm" option too. I have to confirm yet, but this problem appears to not happen in all programs. The red error message shows when I launch the program. My suspect is that there are some comm isues, lately comm retry messages appears at the bottom of the screen when machine is running/changing boards. This problem appeared last hour yesterday and I just tossed the inquiry to the forum, today I'm opening the panels to check connectors, the back up batt (it have 8 years old!) and mod codes. Hi again Bob. I have checked the machine and it resulted that the files of that program were corrupted in some way. All other programs worked fine. I have a back up copy of all progs in a different drive so I fixed it. Two days ago there was a huge black out here, in buenos Aires City, and the machine had that program active at that moment, also there is an intermitent comm failure that I was not able to spot by now (frequent 4c01 comm retry), maybe the conjunction of those two factors caused troubles. Our Quad is 25 years old and after 8 years using it, it is far from standard. I installed a compact flash memory with an IDE adapter instead an HDD and free DOS. I boots pretty fast, but some unforeseen reliabilyty issues could happen. Again thank you, best regards and merry Christmas!

Good job, For the comm errors i would try:

1. Reseat all the cables that plug into the white multiplexer that is attached to the back of the computer. 2. Reseat the EPCU card down inside the machine.
