Do any assemblers use AVX FLEXITERM components ? Anyone experience any instances where the devices look to have soldered well, but then when handling the pcbs, and maybe with a little bit of pcb flex..the CHIPS just drop/pop out the solder fillets ?

Double check your p/n and your datasheet, and with your supplier.

I had this happen one time, though it wasn't with flexi-term parts. Mine ended up being palladium plated end-caps (my buyer and receivers had all missed the applicable suffix issue on the part). Solder won't flow to palladium..they're designed for conductive epoxy mounting.

Cheers, ..rob

Thanks for your reply. According to the manufacturer there isn't any palladium under the solderable coating on the chips...just nickel....i guess maybe the nickel is heavily oxidised. I have experienced the poor solubility (zero solubility at 210 deg C) of palladium plated devices in leaded SMT a few years back...and it did look exactly like the issue my customer is seeing...

Solderability could be checked pretty quickly...try to solder the parts by hand, or try to get solder to flow to the terminals. That was the start of how we discovered our issue when we ran into it.
