HELP Error EXM-9 with GSM2 4688A | 12 October, 2021

Hello there I am having difficulty starting the GSM2 4688A machine, the operating system does not start and does not read the hard disk.

Procedures that we have carried out: 1. We validate the hard drive, it is mounted on an external computer and it gives us a loading image or loads the system. 2. We validate the floppy in the same way by mounting it on an external PC and it works.

3. We have to rule out that the EXM-9 card may be failing, we don't know how to rule out whether it works or not, can someone help me with this problem?

4. We change the CPU battery for a new one and it still doesn't work.

The bios is incorrectly configured, we have already configured the parameters of the disk that it has mounted and we gave it the indication of which cards it has in the slots and it still does not recognize the card or boot the system.

What other possible solution could this difficulty have? or how can we fix it?

the card we have is EXM-9 60-0055-01 From the EPC-5A configuration

Aside from BIOS settings for the drive, there's another page with EXM settings (that's the interface your EXM-9 board is using). You have to configure it right in order to get the system running. See attached document where settings are explained - read carefully ! Also, once you get your settings right, you can store BIOS settings to flash, in case your battery fails again !

thanks for the info. But we do not have the installation discs or the software to reinstall the machine. There is no EXM-9 calibration information or BIOS parameters in the document.

We have already exchanged the old battery for a new battery on the SYS68K CPU-30Lite card. And we try to configure the bios but the error persists.

It does not load the OS / 2 of the machine.

If anyone has any additional information on how to solve this problem I would appreciate it.

Sorry, I attached the wrong file. EXM settings are explained in this one. No need for installation discs.

Thanks Deni for the document, it is very valuable.

I put the configuration that the document indicates to the machine and still the machine does not proceed to execute the SO / 2.

After configuring it, we got these messages that I share in the following images. The battery of the SYS68K CPU-30 Lite card has already been replaced with a new one. The bios is not saving the configuration we are giving it.

After configuring and restarting the machine we get these screenshots. I don't know why you don't want to host the configuration.

What else can I review to solve this problem?

Messages indicate bad battery on EPC-5 CPU board, not SYS68K CPU-30. You have to fix that first. What kind of hard disk is installed? EPC-5 boards support small disk sizes, so sometimes , if larger disk is used, users "trim" reported capacity to lower value that BIOS is capable of processing. If you CMOS data are lost, it might be tricky to restore original values. Also be aware that re-formatting HDD (or installing blank new one) will erase all mapping and calibration data of the GSM machine (if you did not make backup copy) rendering it useless, so be careful !

Yes Deni, we just found the battery on the EPC-5A board. I was wrong, because of my ignorance.

We have the EPC-5A board, this one allows us to have a larger capacity disk, currently we have a 1705 MB seagate

I hope after mounting this battery to be able to put the machine to work, thanks Denis!
